School honors Pampanga lawmaker

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO โ The Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University (DHVTSU) honored Representative Aurelio Gonzales Jr. (3rd District, Pampanga) for his public service and contribution.
The DHVTSUโs anniversary celebration included performances of Kapampangan songs done by students of DHVTSU.
Gonzales, who was guest of honor during one of the schoolโs 150th anniversary activities at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center here, was treated to a surprise Kapampangan skit about his life inserted in the last part of the performance by Mariano Proceso Pabalanโs zarzuela.
The short skit highlighted the important events in the life of Gonzales before he became a member of the House of Representatives.
An emotional Gonzales was ushered on stage along with his sisters amid warm applause.
The youngest of 12 siblings, Gonzales was born to peasant parents in Mexico town. He was sent to school through the labors of his father who was a dedicated farmer. He later embarked on a trailblazing path into politics.
DHVTSU president Enrique Baking told Sun.Star Pampanga the performance of Gonzales in terms of implementing impact projects in the district like roads, covered courts and bridges had changed the economic, social and physical landscape of the towns he had helped.
โThe third district will forever remember the efforts of Congressman Gonzales and we will be forever grateful that a man with such foresight has been given to us during our lifetime,โ Baking said.
Baking also joined the DHVTSU in honoring Gonzales for the conversion of the state university and for constantly allocating funding for the school buildings and school supplies and equipment.
The school was officially founded on November 4, 1861 and was previously known as Don Honorio Ventura College of Arts and Trades.
In June 2009, Gonzales committed his time and efforts to pursuing House Bill 6319, โAn Act Converting DHVCAT into Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University,โ the only one of its kind in Pampanga.
A teary-eyed Gonzales thanked DHVTSU for the honor given to him. He said that he will always stay true to his commitment to serve the schoolโs needs.
โI had the belief that only kings and heads of state deserve honors like this. That is why it is with great joy that I accept this honor. I will forever be proud that the DHVTSU has honored the son of a farmer from Mexico,โ Gonzales said.
