Energy chief staying put, says Palace
BY CRIS G. ODRONIA
MALACAรANG on Thursday denied rumors that Secretary Jose Rene Almendras of the Department of Energy is also set to step down from his office.
During a Palace press briefing, spokesman Edwin Lacierda said that Almendras was doing a โvery splendid jobโ as Energy chief.
โI can confirm that he [Almendras] is not resigning,โ Lacierda replied when asked to validate rumors that the secretary was also set to resign.
โI know that he is not resigning. There has never been any discussion on that. Heโs been doing a very difficult job but heโs doing a very splendid job,โ the spokesman said.
The rumors were heard after Malacanang confirmed that Secretary Jose โPingโ de Jesus of the Department of Transportation and Communications has quit his post.
Lacierda said that de Jesus decided to leave because the Transportation chief would like to return to private life.
De Jesus on Monday tendered his resignation, which would take effect on June 30 of this year.
When asked if a Cabinet revamp was shaping up, Lacierda said, โThatโs hard to say. It all depends on the President.โ
