April 15, 2011
MABALACAT — Mayor Marino Morales has urged barangay leaders here to comply with the conditions of Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
During Wednesdayβs meeting with village chiefs here, Morales said every barangay should implement environmental laws in their respective villages.
βI told them (barangay leaders) that they should have their own clean and green program so that we will have a clean and healthy community and environment,β Morales said.
The mayor even instructed leaders whose villages are lying along the MacArthur Highway to help in disposing garbage dumped along the national highway.
The village chiefs were also instructed to establish material recovery facilities in their respective barangays in order to handle waste properly.
Morales vowed to support the barangay leaders in terms of funds and manpower for their various programs on environmental protection.
The mayor also asked the barangay executives to apply different techniques on how to handle solid waste including recycling, segregation, re-use, among others.
